Abstract asymmetrical massing, minimalist unadorned detailing and a refined palette of organic materials create a connection between the building and landscape, interior and exterior living spaces. The internal logic of the building and site design revolves around the Sycamore tree fronting the property. The house’s circulation spine, open corridor and stairway, aligns with the tree. The engagement of the Sycamore tree informs the landscape design. The courtyard entry continues landscape elements from the front garden and provides a calming transition into the home. Building and landscape elements – form-board concrete and expansive glass walls, wood accents, drought tolerant plants set on berms – run consistently throughout the interior and exterior of the house and gardens.
